Dewpoint sensors

Dew point sensors for measuring residual moisture in compressed air and gases.

You probably know the phenomenon that when you arrive at your car on a beautiful autumn day, the windows are completely covered with condensation droplets. This is because warm air hits a cold window. Cold air can contain less water vapor and must therefore give it up. This creates water droplets. This humidity occurs everywhere, including in your machinery and compressed air system. Compressed air is 100% saturated and any drop in temperature causes condensate.

The (permanent) measurement of the pressure dew point and residual moisture content in a compressed air system or gas distribution network is becoming increasingly important. Manufacturers are becoming increasingly aware of the negative effects of too much moisture in the air and gas pipes. This can lead to:

  • Wear in the pipes
  • Reduced lifetime pneumatic components and parts
  • malfunction
  • General contamination of compressed air systems
  • Unscheduled production stops
  • Contamination of the product (e.g. food industry)
  • Unexpected- and increasing production costs

Monitoring

Monitoring the residual moisture in your compressed air is critical to the performance of your plant.

Dew point measurement is not just limited to compressed air or gas drying applications. There are many more processes within the industry where a closely monitored dew point is crucial for the overall production process and the quality of the products.

Applications dew point/residual moisture measurement:

  • Injection molding
  • High Voltage Switches and Inverters
  • Paint lines, paint shops, etc…
  • bottle filling
  • Medical gases
  • Drying pipes

Dryers used to remove moisture from compressed air and other gas streams do not always perform their job properly. Often caused by poor maintenance or because the capacity of the dryer is too small. A pressure dew point sensor serves as a watchdog that permanently monitors the residual moisture in the compressed air flow (or other gas) and immediately triggers an alarm if the values do not correspond to the set requirements.
